The Microsoft Certified IT Professional or MCITP certification validates that you have the comprehensive set of skills necessary to perform a particular IT job.

MCITP: Enterprise Administrator on Windows Server 2008 is specific to IT roles like network administrator and systems administrator. This certification covers Windows Server 2008 and includes upgrade paths to the newer MCSA and MCSE for Windows Server 2012.

Because this certification is set to retire as of July 31, 2013, anyone who has the certification already will automatically become certified in the new MCSA Windows Server 2012. From there you can upgrade your certification to an MCSE Windows Server 2012.

The Microsoft Certified IT Professional for Windows Server 2008 requires 5 exams. Four of them are the core exams and the fifth one is an elective that you will get to choose.

Four core exams: (Must pass all of them)

• 70-640 TS: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, Configuring
• 70-642 TS: Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure, Configuring
• 70-643 TS: Windows Server 2008 Applications Infrastructure, Configuring
• 70-647 Pro: Windows Server 2008, Enterprise Administrator

The 5th exam can be either of the following electives:

• 70-620 TS: Configuring Microsoft Windows Vista Client
• 70-624 TS: Deploying and Maintaining Windows Vista Client and 2007 Microsoft Office System Desktops (retired)
• 70-680 TS: Windows 7, Configuring
• 70-681 TS: Windows 7 and Office 2010, Deploying

How can you start?

There are many resources you can choose from that will teach you everything you need to learn to ace this certification. I recommend these books:

This covers all four core exams and has great labs to follow, over 1200 practice questions and even an exam discount. The books are from Microsoft Press.

2.) For any of the electives, you can also choose the self-pace training books from Microsoft Press.

The next thing you can do to earn this certification is look into the many training courses available online. They are CBT (Computer base training). Usually they provide simulations of labs for you to complete after you watch the many videos of professors explaining the material.

4.) After you have studied the material and practiced the labs, concentrate on mastering the practice questions as much as you need. This will prepare you fully and assure you get this certification. Check out TestKing.

5.) When you are confident that you are ready for the exam: head to www.prometric.com and register for the exam. I recommend you register for the exam midway into your studying because if you paid for the exam voucher already you will motivate yourself to not lose your money by studying more.

Once you pass one exam, quickly move on to the next as you are fresh with the knowledge. Don't procrastinate and wait months to try the next exam.

When you finally accomplish the Microsoft Certified IT Professional for Windows Server 2008 move on to the new MCSA and MCSE for Windows Server 2012.
